Excel Services, Inc. is looking for career-orientated HVAC Journeymen to perform work on commercial and industrial projects.

Duties include the installation of mechanical and HVAC systems.

Position Summary

  • The HVAC Journeyman works on a team under supervision to execute new construction projects, primarily for commercial spaces, while demonstrating the company’s core values.

Minimum Qualifications:                                                          

  • Journeyman license certification
  • Possession of valid driver’s license with a good record of driving
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the International Mechanical Code (IMC), National Fuel and Gas Code (NFGC), OSHA guidelines, and safe work practices
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to distinguish between various HVAC equipment and components
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or within a team
  • Ability to work on weekends, at night, or to work overtime as required

Trade Skills

  • possess a more detailed understanding of both how to read blueprints and of mechanical heating, air-conditioning, & refrigeration construction methods, and measurement gauges; oversee, delegate and monitor assigned employee performance of tasks to ensure completion of phases / activities to project deadlines, based on experience; guide & assist employees in identifying, analyzing & resolving existing or anticipated obstacles in a manner to meet task / project schedules; inform, clarify & confer actual job status (work progress, work schedules, time, job costing, etc.) to the job foreman; work with the job foreman on assessing the strengths & weaknesses of field personnel; help identify material, tool & equipment requests and scheduling needs for the next day; direct, train & mentor apprentices; possess the ability to visualize completed work prior to installation; plan, schedule & organize tasks and motivate other to complete work the company’s time, safety, quality, and customer service standards; cultivate a working relationship with managers, supervisors, fellow employees, subcontractors, and customer representatives; possess a basic understanding of electrical, concrete, wood, masonry & metal methods; experienced in basic preventive maintenance and trouble-shooting problems & repairs; able to add, subtract, divide & use mechanical formulas accurately; perform work at heights of up to 90 feet (from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, roofs or other safe elevated workspaces); work in tight spaces, such as switchgear rooms, and crawl spaces; give hand signals to equipment operators; understand labels, job site maps / directions, manuals & written instructions, as well as all HVAC & OSHA state & local practices; knowledgeable of how mechanical systems that interact with electrical systems to provide safe operating systems; inspect subcontractor performance to ensure it meets contract agreements & schedules; conducts project closeouts, updates punch lists, and develops information for record drawings; constantly updates job skills through continued training. 
  • Understand job cost report and analyze the project for areas of improvement; eliminate or reduce legal risk on projects; knowledgeable and takes action to reduce jobs accidents; train, mentor, discipline & evaluate subordinates & subcontractors; manage one or more crews on different types of construction projects; professionally represents the company at job meetings; ability to recognize and capture change orders
  • Journeymen are able to supervisor increasing numbers of technicians based on their job knowledge & experience.

Essential Duties

  • Install mechanical equipment following applicable codes, manufacturer specifications, and company policies
  • Provide necessary support to other team members to be able to complete tasks on time as instructed
  • Create and maintain cordial and collaborative working relationships with co-workers
  • Ensure all paperwork needed for each job is accurately filled
  • Comfort with working from elevated platform mobile equipment
  • Managing activities of the project at job sites
  • Maintain maintenance records as required by company, city, state, and EPA regulations
  • Assess a problem and provide a solution or communicate with the project foreman
  • Installing mechanical systems in new build, renovation projects, tenant finish, service, etc
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools and test equipment utilized in the trade
  • Display professional company image
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions during all seasons
  • Must be able to lift 70 lbs safely
  • Must be able to climb, stoop, balance, crouch, crawl, or/and kneel continually
  • Must be able to remain in a standing position 80% of the time
  • Perform any other duty as directed
